چکیده

We present an extension of multidimensional upwind residual distribution schemes to viscous flows. Following [Ricchiuto et al. J.Comp.Appl.Math., 2007], we consider the consistent coupling of a residual distribution (RD) discretization of the advection operator with a Galerkin approximation for the second order derivatives. Consistency is intended in the sense of uniform accuracy with respect to variations of the mesh size or, equivalently, for the advection diffusion equation, of the Peclet number. Starting from the scalar formulation given in [Ricchiuto et al. J.Comp.Appl.Math., 2007], we perform an accuracy and stability analysis to justify and extend the approach to the time-dependent case. The theoretical predictions are cofirmed by numerical grid convergence studies. The schemes are formally extended to the system of laminar NavierStokes equations, and compared to more classical finite volume discretizations on the solution of standard test problems. An Adjoint Consistency Analysis for a Class of Hybrid Mixed Methods

Hybrid methods represent a classic discretization paradigm for elliptic equations. More recently, hybrid methods have been formulated for convection-diffusion problems, in particular compressible fluid flow. In [25], we have introduced a hybrid mixed method for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations as a combination of a hybridized DG scheme for the convective terms, and an H(div,Ω)-method fo...

Energy Stable and Momentum Conserving Hybrid Finite Element Method for the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

Abstract. A hybrid method for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations is presented. The method inherits the attractive stabilizing mechanism of upwinded discontinuous Galerkin methods when momentum advection becomes significant, equal-order interpolations can be used for the velocity and pressure fields, and mass can be conserved locally. Using continuous Lagrange multiplier spaces to enforc...

Discontinuous Galerkin method for Navier-Stokes equations using kinetic flux vector splitting

Kinetic schemes for compressible flow of gases are constructed by exploiting the connection between Boltzmann equation and the Navier-Stokes equations. This connection allows us to construct a flux splitting for the NavierStokes equations based on the direction of molecular motion from which a numerical flux can be obtained. The naive use of such a numerical flux function in a discontinuous Gal...

High order exactly divergence-free Hybrid Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for unsteady incompressible flows

In this paper we present an efficient discretization method for the solution of the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations based on a high order (Hybrid) Discontinuous Galerkin formulation. The crucial component for the efficiency of the discretization method is the disctinction between stiff linear parts and less stiff non-linear parts with respect to their temporal and spatial treatm...

A Combined Hybridized Discontinuous Galerkin / Hybrid Mixed Method for Viscous Conservation Laws

Recently, we have proposed a method for solving steady-state convection-diffusion equations, including the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations [17]. The method is a combination of a mixed Finite Element method for the diffusion terms, and a Discontinuous Galerkin method for the convection term. The method is fully implicit, and the globally coupled unknowns are the hybrid variables, i.e.,...
